— About —
Born of an unremarkable lineage and raised within the kingdom of melancholy comes the most roguish of knights. There is scarce anything regal to him; Sylus is an ill-omened man longing to remain a stranger, seeking no pride-stirring claims nor anything but to fulfil his own wayward ambitions. His solemn past rivals the clinginess of one’s own shadow, yet his determination stands firm, keen and sharp as a well-crafted knife for all the misfortune that finds him wanting.A decade after the fall of Gilneas, he is a drifter whose pockets need not be filled. Despite his luck in wealth over the years, his restless nature insists he never put down his blades; having seen too much in too little, his awareness of the world and all its perils leaves him itching to face it so that others may nary have to.He has flitted from cadre to order, lending mettle and metal to what feels to be a hundred causes, all in the name of self-appointed duty led by his maverick credence. The roving knight has never been said to exude chivalry, but he is bound by blood and word to strive for honour.
— Description —
Bearing the face of a haunted man with a cool complexion, littered scars, and dark features, Sylus is apprised to wear stoic, furrowed-brow fronts that suit him eerily well. A blessing of youth is hiding beneath his unkempt beard; for a man in his early thirties who broods far too much, wrinkles have shown him mercy and spared him where weariness has not. His blue-grey eyes are left looking a dull and bleak storm, neither boring nor striking, sporting stubborn dark circles to boot. Atop his head is a crown of medium-length dusky curls rarely afforded a comb; occasionally, when fights are concerned, he wears it half-tied back.
No stranger to compassion or acts of clemency, the Gilnean's hot-headed and rebelliousness casts an oppressive shadow over the trying goodness in his troubled heart. Although he often means well, his good intentions continuously suffer at the hands of his dubious execution, bringing humanity to question. Outwardly, he is a reserved man preferring to keep his distance; of few words, he is content to listen, but his taciturn tendencies paint him as solemn and unwelcoming. He can be considered cold and disagreeable by those privy only to his critical glares. It is unfortunate that his curse leaves him so volatile, for what else dare he blame?Sylus is often seen buried alive beneath a large brown cloak, tattered and frayed at the seams. He prefers to adorn leather ensembles that lend his sellsword ways more reliability, with the muted browns and sable accents doing no finer job than keeping him perfectly unassuming. Yet, when needs must, and the call for knightly ordeals is inevitably answered, nigh-regal armour colours his status. Of all his makeshift fashions, it is his signature scarf, a simple thing that nary fails to make an appearance.

— Bound by blood and fate —

Linette Rayne
Firefly of Wayward Paths
From friendship to being seen as kin, Linette has always been the light to counter his shadows, a guiding firefly in the darkest hours. Through the abyss, hope remains. She taught him that, and her words will forever anchor him.

William Rayne
The Black Trout
What began as camaraderie in the north became something brotherly. William, perhaps one of the bravest souls Sylus has ever come to meet, remains not only an example of strength and honour but a man whose loyalty has never once wavered. No matter the stakes, there will always be trust between them.

Aurius of Northshire
The Truthseeker
Another tale of light and dark unified by kinship. Aurius of Northshire is not only a steadfast friend but someone with enough wisdom to cure anyone’s naivety. His counsel and guidance over the years have kept Sylus from losing himself to secrets untold. He is a brother worth dying for—not to mention one with a questionable amount of sly quips for a would-be choirboy…

Hannah Ailsworth Marrow
Sorceress of the Vials
Without a shadow of a doubt, Hannah will always be held close to his heart—as the remarkable alchemist and his adoptive sister. Having met in the north almost a year ago, their kinship has grown quickly, and she has taught him much in the way of kindness. She is one of the few who truly understands him. Between all that ingenuity and compassion, Sylus would stop at nothing to keep her safe.

Piper Marrow
The Sneak
And then, there is his favourite trickster, Piper, a woman of mischief, kindness, and wisdom who never fails to lift one’s spirits. A fellow night owl, they must have had a hundred talks during the small hours, musing over woes and throes. She has helped rekindle some mirth he thought long lost, and he vows to return the favour. Only, it comes for a price: the occasional jab of banter, all at her expense…

Ealdraed A'muirehen
The Darkener
Of a strange, cursed ilk comes Ealdraed, the short-tempered and questionable. He is much like a brother to Sylus in every aspect; they fight and bloody each other over misunderstandings, but they fight alongside one another when the time truly calls for it. Ealdraed may think himself at a loss for humanity, yet he has proven it a dozen times. They have always shared that in common.

Isuna Jones
Pathstrider of the Old Ways
Mischief. That is her, through and through—only, that is not inherently true. Isuna is the compassionate agent of mischief Sylus considers a good friend, and though their paths rarely cross, he continues to hold his half-elf companion in high regard, appreciative of her support.
